You probably have a two jaw puller just like this one in your tool box already. If you don't, you should. The shackles are the strongest I could find at Lowes. (Not Walmart). Hook one on the carrier facing up and hook the other facing down. This keeps the puller centered on the drive shaft. First watch Remove Propeller Shaft video to remove the Bearing Carrier Retainer Ring and Tab Washer.
Now there should be nothing holding the bearing carrier in but for some gasket adhesive. (Reminder: this is for the Bravo One Outdrive. Different drives and outboards may have a different configuration.) I soak everything in PB Blaster. The carrier should come right out. If the unit is badly corroded, soak in PB Blaster overnight. Gentle heat may be applied to the case. Use a map gas torch. Soak in more PB Blaster. Tap on the case around the carrier location with a hard mallet and tighten the puller. Even if you have to go buy the two jaw puller, length of chain and a couple of these shackles, it will cost less than the Mercruiser tool. Um, you did drain the oil first, right? If not, it's going to dump all over your shoes in just a second.
